The Alfred-Wegener-Institut
belongs to the Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research and thus to Germany's largest science organisation. The AWI works above all in the cold and temperate regions of the world and is known for its expeditions to polar regions (e.g. the "Mosaic" expedition in 2019) to investigate climate change and environmental changes on the planet and to assess the consequences for humanity.
